Advent retreat
2 – 4 December, 2005, the Hungarian Preceptory held an Advent Retreat, by this time traditionally, in the Saint Gerard Retreat House, Leányfalu. During the retreat, the Preceptory held a chapter, too. On Sunday, the members of the Order participated in the holy Mass, celebrated by Dr. Gáspár Ladocsi, suffragan bishop of archdiocese of Esztergom – Budapest , which was the final event of the retreat.
28 – 31 July 2005: There was a seminar, entitled “The Good Battle”, for the Hungarian Preceptory of the Order in the Mater Salvatoris Retreat House of Máriabesnyo½. The Grand Master, accompanied by Dom. Andrea Conti, head preceptor and Dom. Andrea Capelli, chancellor, opened the seminar personally. The most important topic of the seminar, which was compulsory for every member of the Hungarian Preceptory of the Order, was the holy Mass of the Latin rite and the relating ancient Catholic spirituality and mind. At the seminar, the attendants participated in outstanding presentations. Gáspár Ladocsi, bishop also attended at the seminar, and Miklós Beer, bishop welcomed the participants.
Dom. Gergely Attila Lipovszky , prelate of the Order, delivered the first, lengthy lecture on the current essential questions of Latin rite, and its possible problems. After this, father Ágoston Sípos gave a lecture on the important role of the sacrificial nature of the holy mass in the traditional Latin rite. Then came probably the most impressive presentation by Dr. László Dobszay.
In his lecture, he compared the recent rite, developed after the Second Vatican Council, with the traditional, former Latin, or as some called, the rite of Trent . He mentioned in detail the precedents and results of the changes, which accompanied the transformation in fact. On the next day, Ervin Alácsi FSSP held a presentation, reviewing almost the whole historical background, about the criticism of celebrating versus populum. Two presentations of Miklós Földvári closed the seminar about Latin, as a language of liturgy, and about the importance of the religious space in the temples in olden times and now.
On Sunday, an extraordinary, private chapter was held for the Hungarian Preceptory, chaired by the Grand Master personally. Early in the afternoon, Dom. Gergely Attila Lipovszky celebrated a traditional holy Mass of Latin rite for the attendants of the seminar, which was worthy closure of the 3-day active work. A publication about the work of the seminar is under preparation, at the Grand Master's request, which will include the detailed, edited versions of the presentations.
